ALICE MALCOLM

QUILLO
I decided to create this logo as a hand drawn piece which was only minimally computerised. I made this decision as I wanted to keep it as soft as possible as I sometimes find digital graphics to be quite sharp; deciding not to edit out the hand drawn inconsistencies to create an honest, authentic tone.

Because the product's purpose is to dissuade the user from overusing screen based devices in bed, I used a traditional script, aiming for an old fashioned look, tying into the product which is a pillow that lulls the user to sleep with an imbedded book.

I chose the name 'Quillo' mostly because of the way the letters took form on the page. It is also a combination of the word 'quill'; hinting towards the function of reading a book out to you; and 'pillow'. The imagery of a feather quill also works well with tying in the dual purpose of the product as a book and a pillow.

The final design was laser cut onto wood and hung in the exhibition.
